How to Dress like Carrie Bradshaw

So if youre anything like me, youve seen pretty much all the Sex and the City series episodes and dashed out to see SATC 1 and 2 the movie. And now youre obsessed. Not nesecarily with the storyline but with the amazingly decadent clothing and shoes on offer. Completely and utterly obsessed- looks over shoulder and googles- SATC fashion- yep thats me (guilty!)

Which is why we decided to give you a few tips on how to dress like Carrie Bradshaw, and yes I know youre thinking shes a fictional character- but girls, this is someone who have seen us through the worst of man trouble and taught us- you need to be able to see your money- hanging in your closet.

Dont be afraid to experiment with colours:

Carrie has frequently been seen wearing bright colours and pairing different shades of an item with each other. If youre still a bit apprehensive of colour- try one bright item in a bag or scarve- see how you feel, if you feel comfortable enough try a pair of shoes or a belt.
Colours that works well together are:
Pink/navy
Pink/green
Red/Green
Yellow/green

Fabrics with prints is an excellent choice as you can match your accesories with a colour from the print

Carrie is always feminine in what she wears:

Carrie loves pairing her outfit with ultra-feminine pearls and luxury jewellery.
These sexy gloves and over the knee stockings as pictured above is a great way of transforming any outfit to something a bit more edgy and up to date.

Carrie is mostly seen a sky scraper heels- and we all know ho heels can make you do that cute little wiggle when walking.

Carrie loves dresses- well ALL the SATC girls loves it, in fact.

The girls absolutely loves wearing dresses, in any shape or form.
I know its winter by us in Cape Town, but why not pair your favourite summer print dress with lush tights and a boyfriend cardigan- you can even add a vintage thin belt for a bit of waist definition.

Haute Interiors

As my inspiration is constantly changing, I will posting a few ideas and inspiration on interiors quite often so you can help me decide.

A new Start

So Ive been out of the blogging arena for some time now, but Im so happy to announce that I will be posting more regularly now.
Its been quite a tumultuous year for me, Im on the lookout for a new job as mine has been made redundant due to economic restraints. But Im taking everything in good spirit, everything happens for a reason and I cant wait for the next challenge to head my way.

This weeks post is short and sweet, above mentioned being short and below here the sweet….
Ive come across such a lovely tea-house, I thought I just had to share with you.
Its the Berkeley Hotel in London’s Caramel Room- Pret-a-Portea, What a gorgeous idea, the menu also changes as fashion evolves, with this seasons “clog shoe” biscuit being top of the menu at the moment.

Must have items for winter 2010

SO here in Cape Town, the weather is seriously weird, one day is scorching then the next is so cold you can feel your toes. So winter must be aproaching faster than you can say tights and chunky knits. Each year round about this time I go through my closet and asess what I have and what I need for winter. That always means doing a little trend forecast of my own.

The top looks for this season are:
- over the knee boots
- capes, capelets and cloaks
- rip and tear denim
- anything with leather and studs
- chunky knits
- female dandy
- military fashion

As you can see out of above this could actually mean anything, so I broken it down into a few key items that you can mix and match with things you currently have in your closet. Its always good sticking with the basics and building onto that

Over the knee boots:

Best worn with jeans and a plain shirt, I like wearing it with a leather jacket and interesting scarf too.

Capes and cloaks:

Chunky Knits:

Texture plays a big part in Winter clothing in 2010, with the chunkiest of chunky knits keeping us both warm and fabulous. Chunky doesn’t have to equal dowdy though – open-weave details are a must-have showing a peep of skin.

Ripped denim:

Femininity:

Probably my favourite look of the season key elements being:
* Britishness; particularly Regency era British fashion
* High collars; ruffle and bow blouses
* Cropped slim-cut jackets in both a double or single breast
* Waist coats & tailored vests
* Fob chains
* Frock coats and tail coats
* High-waisted jodhpurs

Military:

Gold detailing and ornate trims set off slick military cuts. In 2009, there are a number of different looks you can create – from rock to edgy-feminine to bohemian.

Rock Chic
For the ultimate in rock chic, skinny pants or shiny leggings are the perfect accompaniment. Wear with killer heels and a killer attitude.

Feminine
In 2009 the almighty military jacket can also be played up with a feminine touch. Think Ralph Lauren; a boxy, red military-inspired jacket paired with a floor-length feathered gown. It’s impractical, and it works.

Bohemian Luxe
Nothing compliments the Bohemian Luxe trend quite like a military-inspired piece. Team Gucci’s over-the-knee fringed boots with skinny pants, foho prints, and a strict military jacket for a sexed-up bohemian look.

I just absolutely love backstage sneak peaks when its show season. The photography is amazing- I love the honesy about it.

African Design at the 2010 Design Indaba

As the final curtain drawed on the this years Cape Town Fashion Week, I was yet again amazed at the talent us as Africans, and more over South Africans have to offer.

The fashion show presentation brought to you by Arise Fashion as well as Mac Cosmetics and DSTV, included designers such as Stiaan Louw, David Tlale, Sin, Craig Native and I love Leroy to name a few.

I was thorougly impressed with Sarah Webber’s line- I love Leroy and after the show rushed out to her stand at the Design Indaba to get my hands on one of her intricate and feminine designs only to be met by a stream of like minded individuals that had the same idea. Absoloutely gutted that I couldnt succeed in pressing passed the rest of the fashionistas I immediately went online in search for my own creation by this talented designer.

a Little bit more about the designer:
Sarah Webber was nominated as a semi-finalist in the 2005 Nederburg Young Artist Awards soon after launching her label. Marie Claire included her on its 2007 Top Ten Emerging Designers list and she also earned a nomination in the Emerging Designer category at the 2008 Cape Town Fashion Awards. Sarah has previously collaborated with Levi Strauss for the Mixed Tape Fashion Show and also showcased her designs at the 2008 Design Indaba with another showcase at this years event.
Some of the retail outlets you can find her work in are: The Space – Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town
MeMeMe – Cape Town, Blackbeard and Dare – Kalk Bay, Stellenbosch, Calyx – Port Elizabeth, Tziporah – Plettenberg bay,The Chocolate Box – Switzerland.

Boy meets girl goes feminine were the main theme coming across in Sarah’s collection with an array of beautifull soft flowy chiffons, vintage laces as well as detail to make any pattern makers head spin.

But what I really enjoyed about the show is the juxtapositioning between hard and soft lines. Some of the looks being quite androgynous but always with a slight feminine touch. This is definitely a fashion line I can see on street. Impecaply created with quality fabrics, wearable and beautifull.

This is one designer I would love to see more of, and by the interest her stand created at the C.T 2010 Design Indaba I was not the only one with those sentiments.

R.I.P Mcqueen

Fashion designer Alexander McQueen has taken his own life at age 40. His office confirmed his death, saying: ‘It is a tragic loss. We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family.’ He was found at his home in London. The UK Sun reports that he hanged himself.

McQueen’s mother Joyce died on February 2nd. The next day the grieving designer tweeted “i’m letting my followers know the my mother passed away yesterday if it she had not me nor would you RIP mumx.” A minute later he added “but life must go on!” On Sunday he tweeted “sunday evening been a f****** awful week but my friends have been great but now i have to some how pull myself together …”

Anna Wintour reportedly left the BCBG show in a rush on Thursday morning after hearing the news. She later released a statement saying “He brought a uniquely British sense of daring and aesthetic fearlessness to the global stage of fashion. In such a short career, Alexander McQueen’s influence was astonishing — from street style, to music culture and the world’s museums. His passing marks an insurmountable loss.”

McQueen’s close friend Kate Moss issued a statement through her rep on Thursday: “Kate is shocked and devastated at the tragic loss of her dear friend Lee McQueen. Her thoughts are with his family at this sad time. We would also ask that Kate’s privacy is respected.”

Moss was a bridesmaid when McQueen married documentary filmmaker George Forsyth in 2000.

McQueen’s secondary line, McQ, was to be presented Thursday, the day of his death, as part of New York Fashion Week. KCD, the PR company handling the show, says the presentation is canceled.
